David Graham; a Saint-Tropez personality
The late Canadian cable TV magnate David Graham was a regular in Saint-Tropez for almost half a century. It was not uncommon to see him strolling around the streets of the resort. He finally acquired a beautiful property here at the foot of the Moulin des Graniers, where he received family and friends, and from which he could enjoy a fine view of the gulf. He had also made a showcase here for his collection of paintings, including Paul Signac's Le Port au Soleil Couchant, which had accompanied him from his London residence. Discreet, generous and thoughtful, the collector wanted some of his paintings to go to the Musée de l'Annonciade. These are the ones that comprise the current exhibition.
Impressionism and Fauvism
From Camoin to Signac, the paintings bequeathed to the museum by David Graham are a real ode to Saint-Tropez and Provence. The Place des Lices, the port, views of the bay; you will recognise in these interpretations full of colour, serenity and subtlety the timeless landscapes that add so much to our town’s appeal. This exhibition is another good reason to visit the Musée de l'Annonciade, a former chapel dating from the 16th century which, since 1937, has been dedicated to art. This modest and elegant building of gleaming white and blue is a place full of charm and spirit.
