Delve into the heart of an authentic village

Stroll hand in hand through the small, randomly spaced streets of the village and delve into the secret heart of Saint-Tropez. There is another side to the village, a winter face that we rediscover each year after memories of “the holidays are stowed in luggage cartons " to quote the Brigitte Bardot song. The February sun gives a unique clarity to the Mediterranean landscape and highlights the ochre stone facades of the numerous houses and churches that dot the squares and alleys. Early in the morning, la place aux Herbes awakens with its market. At place des Lices, tables are set up on terraces and at cafés at the first ray of sunshine. In the port, little white boats bob on the waves and the unmistakeable sound of clashing masts recalls the omnipresent sea. Get there early in the morning and you can see fishermen landing their nets as they return with the day’s catch. 

Walk between sea and land

Discover Saint-Tropez and its beaches; many coastal paths and marked trails allow couples to enjoy beautiful walks along the shore and in the nature reserve. Cork oaks, pines, Aleppo pines, arbutus and oleanders provide a delightful backdrop as you wander between valleys and steep cliffs. And if your Valentine is the sporty type, the spectacular Maures mountain range is nearby. It overlooks the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and 60 kilometres of scrubland filled with thyme, rosemary, cistus or chestnut is king. We highly recommend a picnic with friends in the heart of this glorious wilderness as the sun reaches its highest point.

The white parasols and gaily-striped deckchairs now make way for long stretches of fine sand and the tiny shells and algae that pour from the foamy waves and surf. At this time of year, the beach is yours. Graniers, Fontanette and Salins beach, to name just a few, are waiting to be explored. Walk hand in hand along the edge of the water and revel in a sense of peacefulness and intimacy. Enjoy a glass of champagne, a toast to your love, as you admire the last rays of sun over the Mediterranean. The bravest couples might even try an invigorating dip ... before rushing to the Bastide Saint-Tropez for a delicious hot bubble bath.
