A summer in the coastal resort of Saint-Tropez
You have a date this summer with one of the most beautiful and famous fishing villages in the world.
Blue and white deckchairs, Brigitte Bardot, the Gendarmes movies, cream gâteaux and little yellow and orange houses… This is the image we all tend to have in mind when we think of Saint-Tropez. But there’s so much more to this French Riviera hotspot! Did you know that, according to legend, the place gained its name in the year 68, when the body of Saint Torpès (a Christian martyr) was washed ashore on a beach of what was then a tiny fishing village? A chapel was erected in his memory and the village came to bear his name and went on to enjoy renewed prosperity.
Fast forward to more recent times! In the 1960s, Saint-Tropez quickly became one of the most popular movie locations, particularly for the films of the French New Wave. Nearly 70 films have been shot here, including the legendary And God Created Woman, directed by Roger Vadim, which brought Brigitte Bardot to worldwide acclaim. Then there was the hugely popular Gendarmes movies with Louis de Funès and the TV soap opera Sous le Soleil.
Culture buffs love the Annonciade Museum, which has a superb collection of paintings representing the Pointillist, Nabis and Fauvist movements. This reopens its doors to the public on May 26th. The Gendarmerie and Cinéma Museum, the Citadel of Saint Tropez Maritime History Museum and the Butterfly Museum are unfortunately still closed to the public right now, but it is hoped they will reopen during the summer.
If simply taking it easy is your preferred holiday (in)activity, head for the beach! Since May 19th, the beaches of Bouillabaisse, Canebiers, Graniers and Salins have been reopened to the public. Every day from 10:00 to 18:00, you can perfect your tan, enjoy the sea air, and even take a cooling dip.
In short, you have a thousand and one reasons to spend your summer 2020 in Saint-Tropez and book your stay at the Bastide de Saint-Tropez! Idyllic, sumptuous, absolutely unforgettable holidays for lovers, families and friends!
