Saint-Tropez has many iconic locations, ranging from its bell tower, cobbled streets, and fish market to its beaches, whether left to nature or busy. Among these essential images, the port of Saint-Tropez figures prominently. From internationally renowned regattas to terraces where it’s a joy to relax, you can discover all the charms of this small Provençal port during your stay at the Bastide de Saint-Tropez.
Through the ages…
The history of the port of Saint-Tropez goes back to the distant days of antiquity when the Ionian Greek Phocaeans used the location as a coastal mooring site from 600 BC. Since then, protected by its peninsula, the cove has always welcomed and protected fishermen, merchants and, more recently, recreational sailors. Alongside the huge yachts, you can admire the elegant pointus, traditional fishing boats in bright colours that include the famous Piou-Piou which belonged to Brigitte Bardot. You can also stop at the Sénequier terrace, recognisable by its red chairs, and taste its specialty: nougat.
The magic of the Voiles
While enjoying the off-season at the Bastide de Saint-Tropez, don’t miss the fun and excitement of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez. This regatta, which began as a wager between friends, has now continued for nearly 25 years, pitting craft of all categories against each other. From classic to ultra-modern, they compete by category in races that take them all over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. From land, the spectacle of all these sails on the water is magical. And in the port, the ambiance is festive and friendly! This year, the Voiles de Saint-Tropez takes place from September 24th to October 8th.
The true beating heart of Saint-Tropez, the resort’s small port is full of charm. Come and discover it this mild Indian summer, during your stay at the Bastide de Saint-Tropez!
